There is more to making a good impression than just how you look!  How you communicate with others - whether in writing or in speaking - often has a far more lasting impact.  In some cases, your communication skills may determine if you ace that exam, snag the job of your dreams, successfully get your point across in a crucial negotiation, or avoid a misunderstanding with someone.

There are more than one million words in the English language.  You probably do not even remember learning your first one, but you have been steadily storing them away in your brain all these years. By the time you graduate from high school, you will have accumulated, on average, a vocabulary of about 45,000-60,000 words.  The trick to good communication is to pull these words out of your brain and arrange them on a page or in your speech in such a way as to be understood and make the impression you seek.

You do not have to write or speak like Shakespeare, but you should at least give “lip service” (pun intended) to writing or speaking as correctly as possible.  To do otherwise is to do yourself a disservice, as your audience may very well dismiss your points. Poor grammar may be construed as being a symptom of a poor education, or perhaps even laziness, neither of which is an impression you want to leave!

For "do-it-yourself" types, we publish a blog that is chock-full of handy tips and tricks to improve your skills and give your communications that all-important "zing." Our goal is to give you tools to continually add to your grammar knowledge base, painlessly, in a manner that will in no way harken back to those boring English class lectures.  Specific topics are addressed, accompanied by examples that will help you see how recognizing the "good," the "bad" and the "ugly" can help you make the correct choices in your own communications. Each blog post  focuses on a single grammar gaff and its cure in an entertaining style that is bound to stick to the memory cells of your brain. And if it doesn't, you can always refer back to the blog's archived posts for a refresher reading!
